Saddles

Billy Cook 1527 Model Barrel Saddle 15 inch

I ride in a 15 inch billy cook. I have had it for years and I has held up to everything. It fits most horses well. I holds me in when we race, but has room and is comfortable on trails. I currently have offset aluminum stirrups on it.

Billy Cook 2001 Model Barrel Saddle 14 inch

I recently purchased a used, 2001 model billy cook saddle. It has the same tree, (Quarter Horse Bars with a CJ rawhide covere tree.) So it will fit Jessica as well as fits my new project, Sister and many other horses.

Saddle Pads

Professional Choice Air-Ride Saddle Pad

I love, and use a pro choice air ride pad from the charmayne james signature series. They are very short and keep Jessica from having a sore back. I like that they are fairly thin, so as long as the saddle fits the horse well I think they work wonderfully. I have recently purchased another air ride pad just like the one I have been using for years.

Cinches

Neoprene Pro Choice Roper Cinch

On Jessica I use neoprene roper style cinches. I use a prochoice roper, and I also have an off brand the same style. Many people feel that neoprene makes their horses cinchy, but I find that if I ride with my saddle slightly loose, there is no problem!

Bits

Reinsman - Sharon Camarillo Short Shank Ultra

This bit is a semi-harsh bit. It has shanks, very little gag action and a nosband. This is Jessica's race bit and bit we use when working cows. She is harder in the face, and it allows me to control her without having to fight her.

Twisted Wire Gag

This bit is what I use on Jessica for at home. It keeps her softer and it light on her face.

Plain D Ring

This is what I use on my girls occasionally to keep them soft in the face and also on green horses.

Wonder Bit

This is Sister's new bit, lots of gag, and shorter shanks so it has some lift and just a little more than a snaffle.

Protective Boots

Professional Choice No Turn Bell Boots

Jessica has always used pro choice no turns and I love them. Really, just for color reasons I have purchased her a pair of Class Equine bells, but Thunder will be using the pro choice bells until they are complately worn out. I have used this one pair for years and they are very beat up, but still offer protection!

Professional Choice Elites

On Jessica I use pro choice elites. I like them and they have lasted. I had used pro choice skid/splint boots on her hind, but they irritated her, though they were very nice boots.

Professional Choice SMBII

I purchased a pair of SMBIIs for Thunder. They are bulkier, but she is a bigger mare and I think she can handle that. I have actually not used them yet, but I have faith in the pro choice boots!

Classic Equine Dy No Turn Bell Boots

I just purchased these for Jessica. They look like they will hold up and look great.

Polos

This past season I have used polos on Jessica's back legs. I have decided not to use them as they seem to fall down on her even when wrapped tight. I used them after she had some tenderness on one leg after she had her foal this last year (I think she may have gotten kicked) to help prevent injury while getting back into shape.

Riding Boots

Ariat Probaby/Fatbaby Boots

I ride in ariat boots. I have worn fatbabys to ride in since they came out, but have purchased a pair of probabys. I like them both pretty equally. They help me keep my feet in the stirrups and I can wear them all day long without my feet getting sore. Though some have said they have had problems with them getting stuck in their stirrups, I have fallen off many times with them on and never had a problem.

Extras

Tie Downs

On Jessica I use a tie down. She has issues with lifting her head too high and without one she is hard to control. I like to use just a nylon one on her because she has a sensitive nose. This year I am going to try a bonnet tie down on her to see if she can get around better.

Reins

I like using nylon, braided reins. On Jessica I have knotted ones, but I don't really have a preference between knotted and not knotted. I now have some very thin, adjustable leather reins that I use on Trouble and I love them!

Saddle Blanket

Mayatex saddle blanket to cover the old air ride. Very pretty.

If you have any questions about my tack, what I like or what you should use, I would love to answer your questions!
